Hart Peikoff

WE ARE NOW AN NHL CITY. Yes!

Chaim (Hart) Peikoff, May 31, 2011

We are now an NHL City. Yes!

Well the transaction has been made though contingent on the NHL board of directors voting positively on the Atlantic Thrasher moving here. Mr. Gary Bettman at the press conference this morning in Winnipeg left the impression it’s a deal and the board would vote in favor of Winnipeg. Their meeting is at the end of June.

The richest man in Canada David Thompson, Chairman of Thomson Reuters the media conglomerate where his family has a 55% stake is partners with Mark Chipman. This alone is a winning combination. Mark in his own right is a solid human being who understands how the NHL and the hockey world operate. Mr. Thompson has a strong sentiment for Winnipeg’s sense of community.  All the pegs are in line for this to be a triumphant move for all those involved including Manitoba’s fans.

As it has been stated to seal this deal it is paramount the citizens of Manitoba show their desire to have a team here in Manitoba is beyond the emotional display and purchase at least 13,000 Season Tickets and cover as well 3 years of season ticket sales.
If this evolves into reality then the deal is 100%. It will send a powerful signal we are ready and deserving and more so can afford to have a team here.

The importance of the NHL returning to Manitoba is in part as a result of how we see ourselves on the world stage. This alone is worth far more that one can measure. The excitement and passion of past Jets fans is a beautiful scene in a world longing for peace, excitement and happiness. The spin off effect of having the NHL here in Manitoba will be remarkable for all Manitobans.

Half the people polled would like the Jets name to continue. Using another form of reasoning it may be wise to choose a new name which will as well generate revenues from new product. A great name would be Manitoba Maccabees (Hammerers) No, No! No one will be required to wear a skull cap or also called a Yarmulke! Another interesting name may be Manitoba Rockets or Manitoba Missiles.

This is a new era in Manitoba history. Three cheers! Go team Go.
